💌 The date that went completely off script
Six months trading glances with the guy at the café and never saying a word. Last week her cowardice ran out.
Remember the Muse of the 8am Espresso? The one who'd been trading glances with the café guy for months and never said a thing. Well. Last week her cowardice ran out — and the blame, she swears, was a piece of clothing.
She was going to dinner with him. First date after six months of swallowed "good mornings". And she was a wreck: changed clothes four times, felt too much, felt invisible. Until she put on, under the simple black dress, a lace body no one would see — and that was the whole point. "It wasn't for him. It was so I'd know it was there."
She arrived late (of course). But she said she sat differently. Spoke differently. Laughed without covering her mouth. She says it wasn't the lace, it was what the lace reminded her of: that she was already enough before any yes from him.
The 7pm Delivery Guy — because there's always one — nearly dropped the tray when she laughed out loud. Detail for another day.
At the end of the night he said one line. She sent me the line. And I stayed up wondering whether to tell it or keep it. Friday I'll decide.
(Queen, if you're reading this: this is what I wanted to tell you on Sunday. Courage is underwear too.)
